Mysuru to Host ‘Greens Festival’ Featuring Over 100 Varieties of Indigenous Greens
Mysuru: A two-day ‘Greens Festival’ aimed at creating awareness about the nutritional value, health benefits and importance of traditional leafy greens will be held at Nanjra Bahadur Choultry in Mysuru on September 5 and 6.
Leafy greens are an important part of a nutritious diet and provide several essential nutrients required by the body. They also play a significant role in addressing nutritional deficiencies and supporting overall health. However, several traditional and naturally available greens are gradually becoming unfamiliar to the younger generation.
The festival will showcase rare and lesser-known varieties such as Kirukasali, Kusube Soppu, Anne Soppu and Chukki Soppu, among others.
More than 100 varieties of indigenous greens will be displayed at the festival. Farmers will also bring different varieties of fresh greens and value-added products made from greens for sale directly to consumers.
The festival will feature organically grown fresh greens, seeds of traditional greens, medicinal plants and traditional dishes prepared using leafy greens.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on September 5 and 6 at Nanjra Bahadur Choultry, Mysuru.
The organisers have appealed to the public, especially youngsters and health-conscious citizens, to participate in the festival and explore the rich diversity and nutritional importance of traditional greens.
